2023 will see the launch of a dedicated Dawlish and District Indoor Bowls Club website, the first since the club’s inception back in 1971.
Commented Publicity Officer, Peter Hayes: “At our club, we recognise that bowls carries with it an image of a certain age profile of people, who play bowls. I shall turn 71 next February, but I am regarded by most members as a mere stripling! Joking apart, our Head Coach, Rick Purnell, is always encouraging younger members within our catchment area to take up this sport; not just youth, but also young adults, who are in their 20s, 30s or 40s.
“For some time, the club’s committee has recognised the need to produce a website, which will, at least offer prospective newcomers to the sport an eye opener as to what actually goes on.
“Accordingly, the Committee warmly welcomed Andy Bodenham’s kind offer to undertake the task, especially as he had also only just joined the club this season!
“With the assistance of some of the more seasoned members, he gathered as much information as he could about the history of the club, populated a few more pages, and set about launching the new website.
Andy, pictured with his laptop presenting to one of the Committee meetings, comments: “To date www.dawlishindoorbowls.com incorporates an About Us page, information for members regarding Leagues, Fixtures and Weekly Sessions, as well as a Membership page. Anyone wishing to contact the club can do so via a dedicated Contact page”.
Continues Peter: “It is very much early days and Andy has agreed to oversee its further development through the coming months.
“Andy’s insight of the club since joining has been the very friendly vibe it generates. So, with this in mind the website also features Latest News on the Front Page, posts on what has been happening at the club recently – or is about to happen soon. It’s well worth a visit to keep on top of what has been going on within the club!
“This particular task is aided by regular media updates from myself, as Publicity Officer. I pass these on to Andy for inclusion within the site. “In conclusion, we hope that the introduction of this new website will encourage newcomers to try their hand at this very challenging sport. Remember this – the Commonwealth Games features the game of bowls; that’s not nothing”!
