16 year old Andrew Moore is a member of Dawlish Indoor Bowls Club. Recently, he was chosen to participate in the prestigious England U18’s trial.
Peter Hayes, Publicity Officer, explains: “The U18 England trials were held at the end of November at Northampton indoor bowls club. There were 39 entrants with the selectors looking for 10 for the team and 2 travelling reserves plus 2 non-travelling reserves. There was an extra place available to make up a British Isles team due to a team pulling out”.
“Unfortunately Andrew did not get selected. The morning session was a warm up of exercises and skills tests followed by a questionnaire to get to know more about the player”.
“The afternoon was teaming up and playing some bowls matches being watched closely by the selectors taking notes of every shot. Although disappointing, this provides invaluable experience none the less; fingers crossed for another time. “Andrew, in the meantime, has been entered both the U18 and U25 National Bowls tournament, due to commence shortly. Very well done – shot wood”!
