During January, Dawlish Indoors Bowls Club hosted a friendly match against Devon Colts.

The Colts are managed by husband and wife team, Adam (pictured 4th from the left ) & Heidi Fielder.

Colts friendly match

Peter Hayes, Publicity Officer, continues: Adam & Heidi do a great job, inspiring youngsters to take up this sport. Colts are defined as under the age of 30 for friendly matches – it is this generation of new players, which is so important for the game. Although bowls is perceived as a sport for the older generation, many of the UK’s current international squad have decades to go before reaching traditional retirement age. For such a small county in terms of population, Devon is represented very well at international level, so the drive to discover future talent is of paramount importance.

“The match against our club turned out to be a draw in a classic ‘youth vs. experience’ encounter! Dawlish won on two rinks, skipped by Colin Parker and Tom Neville against Leanne Evans and Ryan Seers. On the other rink, the Colts  triumphed thanks to their skip, Connor Fielder, over Ian Ramsay.

“Although the match was a friendly, a competitive spirit prevailed and every player, whatever their age, will have taken away the odd little nugget or two, which will stand them in good stead for their next match.
