There was a good attendance at the club for the Dawlish Indoor Bowls Finals 2024, with 30-40 spectators present, held over the weekend of 23rd-24th March. It was the culmination of weeks of matches between many of the club’s members.

Compere for the afternoon, Colin Parker, introduced all the players in the finals, and their markers (m).

On Saturday, the Ladies Singles and Men’s Singles Finals took place, whilst the final of the Ladies Umbrella took place on the Sunday.

In the Ladies Final it was a family affair as Jean Pitts came up against her sister Dawn Konetsky. Dawn soon gained the upper hand though by throwing quite a few shorter jacks, and gaining the advantage. Dawn eventually won out with a score of 22-4.

It was a win-win situation though, both very pleased to have triumphed in making it all the way to the finals!

The Men’s final threw together Marc Baker and an up-and-coming player Andrew Moore. Andrew took a while to get going, but gradually got more and more into the match as time went on. Although Andrew played some excellent shots, he didn’t quite match the very high standards Marc played to from start to finish. Marc was very consistently on the jack and proved a very worthy winner, the score 21-10.

Andrew had plenty of support from his family on the day, whilst Marc’s father Fred was also amongst the watching crowd.

In the Umbrella Competition on Sunday the final was between the pair of Debs Kettley (lead) and Georgie Nown (skip) against Carole Scutt (lead) and Steph Cheshire (skip). Commiserations go to Debbie Coyles, who had to pull out of the final at the last minute with a slipped disc, thus allowing Debs Kettley the opportunity to take her place.

Each player has just two bowls each and the Umbrella is played over a total of 18 ends. Carole soon made life difficult for her opponents with some very accurate first bowls, whilst Steph was able to add to these throughout the match. Debs and Georgie never gave up though, getting a 4 towards the end of the match.

Steph and Carole kept their lead, eventually running out worthy winners with a score of 16-11.
