After quite an exciting last couple of weeks the Ladies Umbrella competition has now reached a conclusion. We now know who the finalists will be!
As a reminder, one skip and one lead are drawn out of a bag each session, with 18 end, 2-wood pairs matches played (12 ends if 2-wood triples are played). The aim is for the skips and leads to accumulate their 7 best scores throughout the season in order to become a finalist for Finals Weekend.
All the weekly results have been regularly charted with those in the running able to see exactly what they needed to achieve in order to progress to the final. This did lead to some excellent scoring on the last competition day; Cherry Chapman getting 23, Dawn Konetsky 22 and Georgie Nown 21 (for skips). There were some high scores for the leads as well; Debbie Coyles getting 23, Debs Kettley 22, and Carole Scutt 21.
Dawn Konetsky, Ladies Captain (who had the idea for this competition), has now checked and verified the results.
In first place for the skips was Georgie Nown with 123, Steph Cheshire on 115 in second place. For the leads, first place went to Debbie Coyles on 121, Carole Scutt’s 119 coming a very close second. Both managed to surpass Teresa Dudman’s existing total on the final day!
These are the Umbrella finalists, with all the finals to be played over Finals Weekend, 23rd-24th March.
