The ladies started a brand new competition this season, called the “Umbrella”. Proving to be quite popular, the competition continues through to March before we will know who the eventual finalists are.

Who will stand out from the crowd?

Well, what is the Umbrella? Looking at the rules it appears quite complicated to the bystander but I think the Ladies have all got to grips with the fundamentals now, and it’s just me that is struggling!

As I understand it, each pair combines one Skip and one Lead from the list of available players, pairs chosen on the day. Matches are played over 18 ends with 2 woods each, each player accumulating their own individual scores. The players 7 best scores over the season will then be totalled up to find the overall finalists. The full rules for the game can be found here!

Many of the Ladies are close to or have reached 7 matches played, and it is looking quite close regarding potential winners – with still a few more weeks to go.

Leading on the Skips is Georgie Nown with 115, whilst Debs Kettley is ahead so far for Leads with 103. There will be a final on Finals Day between the highest skip and lead versus the second highest skip and lead.

To see who is in with a shout take a look at the running totals, and the very best of luck to everyone who is taking part!
